Sabah, Negeri di Bawah Bayu

For this mid-term school holiday, my family and I went to Sabah which is famously known as the "land below the wind". Our first destination while in Sabah was to Kundasang, the highland town near the Mount Kinabalu which is the highest peak of the South East Asia.

It was drizzling along the way from Kota Kinabalu (KK) to Kundasang and took us around 2 hours to reach Lone Pine Resort. However, we were mesmerized with the wonderful view of the Mt. Kinabalu and its valleys :)

Kinabalu National Park

The next day, we drove up to the National Park till to the last point for the vehicles and the starting point for the hikers who wish to climb the trail up to the Kinabalu peak. Should have done that years before though ;p

Kundasang War Memorial

Built in 1962 to commemorate Australian and British prisoners who died during World War II at the Sandakan POW Camp for the infamous forced death marches from Sandakan to Ranau.
Well, sad things happened during war, globally :(

2nd pix: We had our tea and ordered 'pisang goreng' at one of the muslim restaurant in Kundasang.

Dairy Cattle Farm

We drove along the road to the cattle farm for a perfect 'backdrop' of Mt. Kinabalu. Since we were early and the farm would have just opened at 10am, we then just enjoyed the sightseeing and the freshness of the morning breeze along the way.

After spending 2 days and a night in Kundasang, we went down to KK and headed to the Le Meridien hotel which is located opposite to the Phillipines market and facing the South China Sea. It was so convenience as the hotel is just a walking distance to the Water Front restaurants, shops and malls.

The next day, we went for island hopping and snorkeling, the 'climax' of our Sabah trip itineraries;) We booked the tour guide via hotel service and as early as 7.30am, our lady tour guide came and picked us up at the hotel to the jetty. We headed to the Manukan Island by the speedboat together with a twin-ladies from Kuala Lumpur and 2 guys from Beijing. At Manukan Island, both hubby and my son snorkeled while I was just relaxing by the beach, chatting with the ladies of our group and snapped the pictures.

Around lunch time, we got into the boat and off to Sapi Island, where we were served with lunch buffet by the beach. Then, all of us (hubby, son and I) joined the snorkeling activities. I was so excited to see beautiful corals and fish of different types, colors and sizes underneath the water. MasyaAllah! Double excited as we were able to see the clown fish or nemo as named in the movie "Finding Nemo", which according to our tour guide, could not be found at the Manukan Island.

Done with snorkeling, we were sent back to our hotel. Sunburnt but happy. We rested in the hotel before going out for a dinner while enjoying the sea breeze by the water front.
The next day, we went strolling around the town, shopping for some souvenirs and later had foot massage. After lunch, we packed up our stuffs, check out from hotel and headed to the airport.
Sayonara KK...,  til we meet again;)
